Freedom Fighters’ allowance proposed to be increased to Tk 20,000 Star Digital Report Star Digital Report Honorarium for valiant Freedom Fighters will be increased from Tk 12,000 to Tk 20,000 in the next fiscal year, according to proposed budget for 2021-22. The government has allocated Tk 1,920 crore to this end. This allocation was made following the Prime Minister s announcement in February to increase Freedom fighters monthly allowance. Monthly allowance for freedom fighter was introduced in FY2013-2014. Besides, the government has also started constructing 30,000 Bir Nibas for the freedom fighters at the cost of Tk 4,122 crore to ensure their safe accommodation. To improve the socio-economic condition of the greatest sons of the soil, construction of Muktijoddha Complex in every district and upazila of the country is at the final stage, according to proposed budget.

They said the proposed budget has taken measures to protect local industries, save trade and business and create employment amid the pandemic-hit economic slowdown. Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) President Faruque Hassan has termed the proposed budget for the next fiscal year ‘very significant one’ due to the country’s celebrations of 50 years’ of independence and the global pandemic. The BGMEA President said the budget focused more on all the issues related to the lives and livelihoods considering the current situation.
