Taiwan on Thursday received its first batch of Pfizer’s COVID-19 treatment Paxlovid, as well as a shipment of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine, the last batch ordered by the government, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) said.
The delivery of Paxlovid contains 3,200 courses of the 20,000 that the government has ordered, CECC specialist advisory panel convener Chang Shan-chwen (張上淳) said.

Taiwan yesterday reported 41 new imported COVID-19 cases, the highest number of such cases since the pandemic began in early 2020, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) said yesterday.
The 41 cases entered Taiwan between Dec. 16 last year and Thursday, including at least 34 Taiwanese, the CECC said, adding that the nationality of one man was “under investigation.”
Twenty-five of the cases were classified as breakthrough infections, three involved people who were not vaccinated, and the status of the other 13 was under investigation, the CECC said.

Taiwan’s first-dose COVID-19 vaccination coverage had reached 77.34 percent as of Wednesday, while 50.5 percent of residents had received two doses, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) said yesterday.
The share of the population who are fully vaccinated is expected to reach 60 percent in the middle of next month, said Centers for Disease Control Deputy Director-General Chuang Jen-hsiang (莊人祥), who is the CECC’s spokesman.
About 164,000 people have received the Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna COVID-19 vaccines as their second dose under a newly introduced mix-and-match vaccination program, he said.
Among them, 49,916 received the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine and 114,838 received the Moderna vaccine,
