PORTLAND As about 50 people dressed head-to-toe in black stood in a standoff with Portland police blocking a parking lot behind Benson High School, several parents and coaches from a youth soccer program on the nearby field walked up to see what was going on.
“What are they marching for?” one soccer mom asked.
The anarchists, antifa and activists seemed at times to question that themselves.
PORTLAND, Ore. (KATU) Protesters started gathering in Southeast Portland on Wednesday afternoon following the inauguration of President Joe Biden. The so-called J20 protestwas billed as a demonstration against the Biden inauguration and law enforcement, while also supporting the rights of indigenous peoples. Members of the group gathered at Revolution Hall, where they were approached by Portland Police officers on bicycles.

The event had no formal organizer, but was advertised on social media with a flyer reading: Fuck the state. Fuck Biden. Land back. Fuck 12. By 2:30 pm, around one hundred people many of whom had participated in recent racial justice protests had gathered outside Revolution Hall for the planned demonstration.
The event was interrupted by a group of 12 Portland Police Bureau (PPB) officers on bicycles before it even began. The officers presence drew anger and frustration from those who had begun to gather. Some officers began asking participants if they had weapons on them.
