A NEW and exciting green scheme is planned for Buckley town centre. Flintshire County Council and Refurbs Flintshire have been successful in their joint application to the ‘Green Recovery Circular Economy Fund 2020-21’ to bring funding to Buckley for the new town centre project. This project will deliver a newly developed Repair & Reuse Centre with a community café in the heart of Buckley town centre in the former HSBC bank building. The facility will promote community cohesion through repair and reuse initiatives, whilst providing an opportunity to support the regeneration of one of Flintshire’s town centres. The long term aim of the project is to promote education and behavioural change on waste and recycling initiatives and providing volunteering opportunities and employment for local people.

Buckley town centre. BIDS for schemes in Buckley will put the town at the forefront of roads safety while promoting regeneration, it has been said. The Buckley Town Centre Working Group was established in 2019 to review opportunities to improve the footfall and general vitality in Buckley Town Centre and the surrounding area. It is made up of local traders, county councillors, and representatives from Buckley Town Council, supported by officers from the county council and the council’s deputy leader in her role as portfolio holder for Streetscene and Countryside. The group has met regularly throughout 2020 and has made progress in bringing new opportunities to the Buckley area.

A TOWN mayor has described North Wales Police as an “invisible entity” after slamming the force for failing to tackle anti-social behaviour problems. Buckley mayor Cllr Arnold Woolley said there had been a number of cases where crimes had been reported, but officers had not come out to investigate. It included a recent incident where a vehicle leased by Buckley Town Council was completely destroyed by vandals. Cllr Woolley, who also represents the Buckley Bistre East ward on Flintshire Council, claimed that on each occasion the force seemed reluctant to send officers out as it would result in a crime reference number being issued.
