Trees could be planted to soak up flood water in parts of Slough

Trees could be planted to act as a natural flood prevention TREES and plants are to be planted to act as a ‘natural’ flood defence in Slough areas to soak up excess water. After receiving funding from the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA), Slough Council will create a six-year-long ‘natural flood prevention’ project in partnership with other bodies such as Buckinghamshire County Council. This includes planting in areas where flooding could occur near the borough’s waterways to act like sponges and soak up excess water. Some of the of those places which could see new plantation include Salt Hill Stream and Chalvey Ditches where seven incidents of groundwater flooding and flooding have occurred over the last 13 years.
