A pipeline leak that spilled gasoline into a creek in Linden on Tuesday was shut down after the company discovered the problem, officials said.
Booms were placed near the 12-inch pipeline to contain the leak and prevent the gas from spreading from Piles Creek into the nearby Arthur Kill, according to the state Department of Environmental Protection and Buckeye Pipe Line Company.
Booms act like floating hoses that help contain fuels spills, the DEP said. Cleanup continued overnight, the U.S. Coast Guard said, adding that it sent up a helicopter Tuesday to confirm no gasoline spilled into the Arthur Kill.
