Racing Victoria have confirmed that thoroughbred racing will continue under strict bio-security protocols, despite the state entering a five-day stage 4 lockdown from 11.59pm tonight.
The news comes as a significant blow for the Victoria Racing Club, who were set to welcome 15,000 people on course for tomorrow’s G
roup 1 Black Caviar Lightning Stakes meeting.
Andrews confirmed that professional sport would be treated as an essential workforce, allowing participants to travel to and from their required working destinations.
“Any number of large or small professional sport events, they will function, essentially, as a workplace. They will not function as an entertainment event because there will be no crowds,” Andrews said.
