CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas â May is Mental Health Awareness Month and some people may have felt stressed or anxious due to having to stay indoors because of the pandemic. Now people are able to go out to public events like the Buc Days carnival.
The CDC reports that anxiety and depression due to the pandemic have gone up at least 5%.
Things like getting together with friends at the carnival was non-existent last year and for some first-time carnival attendees like Victoria Smith, last year s quarantine was difficult because she was pregnant, so seeing her daughter make new friends at the carnival is giving her a sense of normalcy.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas â With the normally annual event now reaching itâs final days, KRIS 6 News spoke with visitors and locals alike on what the return of Buc Days has meant to them.
âItâs just something (for people) to get out, do something different,â said Brent Chase. âI think people need to feel like they are still safe and they can get out and do stuff. Just back to normal life.â
Those sentiments were also shared by teens Javari Ayala and Mea Gonzalez who are just friends and were definitely not on a date. The two were having second-thoughts about getting on one of the carnivalâs many intimidating rides.

COPRUS CHRISTI, Texas â At the Buc Days carnival the first thing you see and smell is the food, from fruit cups to the meaty turkey legs there is something for everyone.
âI definitely like the funnel cakes here but also I like the Mexican elote stand they have over here,â says Corpus Christi resident, Kevin Araiza.
There are 7 different food stands to choose from the traditional and not-so traditional.
âThis is the best thing at Buc Days this year, its chicken on the stick and they dip it in ranch and then red hot Cheetos. It is absolutely amazing! A must try,â says Buc Days Representative, Debraun West.
