Sydney Thorvaldson had to take a second on Wednesday to stop and think.
That after four years and four state titles and 35 cross country races won in Wyoming, everything had led up to this moment.
She was awarded Gatorade s highest honor, named National Cross Country Player of the Year for the 2021 season.
Caroline Wells Breaks Florida State Record For 3200 Meters!

On Saturday s Lake Mary Invitational, Winter Springs junior Caroline Wells broke the Florida high school state 3200 meter record in an incredible race of 10:10.39. One of the longest distance races that can be run on the track and Wells broke the state record by a mere fractions of a second.
Two years ago at the FHSAA State Outdoor Finals, East Lake s Parker Valby set the state record with a 10:10.45. Valby unfortunately did not get an opportunity to improve upon that state record last year for her senior season as the coronavirus pandemic shut down spring sports in the state.

Whatever the reason, indoor track was back in a big way last weekend, from a triple jump world record in France to a collegiate phenom making her debut in Texas to a slew of high school stars showing off in Virginia. For Rawlins High School senior Sydney Thorvaldson, the state cross country meet back in October did not mark the end of her season. Throvaldson kept training and added two additional, national meets to her schedule in 2020.
She picked up an impressive win in mid-November at the XC Town USA Meet of Champions in Indiana. And, most recently, she added another gold medal to her collection with a commanding win at the High School Cross Country National Invite in Lubbock, Texas on Dec. 5th.
The win in Lubbock did mark the final time Thorvaldson would run in a cross country meet as a high schooler. Her first place finish was the exclamation point on an astounding prep cross country career.
