Billy Dowling just missed his dream of making the cut as a 15-year-old but a week of fresh belief and friendships made him a winner at the Isuzu Queensland Open.
The teen from Surfers Paradise Golf Club did something at Pelican Waters that went way beyond his impressive 72-73 effort to miss the cut by two strokes.
He had seasoned pros three times his age, like fellow Queenslander Michaael Wright, doffing their caps to him.
He had 2017 Northern Territory PGA champion Travis Smyth retweeting Dowling’s cool story with the tag “How good is this.”

“It’s awesome that golf is being showcased on the Sunshine Coast,” Wools-Cobb said.
“I’m definitely in better shape than last year (when he missed the cut) and knowing the course means you can stay aggressive on the weekend.”
“It’s good to be in contention because there was a time on Thursday when it was so wet I struggled to hold onto the club for five holes.”
The best of the Wools-Cobb birdies came on his eighth hole, the par five 17th, when he drove the ball right off the tee and cut a three wood over the trees to the green.

A sharp eye scanning the tee sheet and a direct message on Instagram has landed Stephanie Bunque a valuable ally as she enters the professional ranks at the inaugural event of The Players Series at Rosebud Country Club this week.
A member at Victoria Golf Club, Bunque spotted Geoff Ogilvyâs name on the tee sheet last year and reached out to the former US Open champion who is this week serving as host at Rosebud.
Paired together at the St Andrews Beach Invitational organised by Mike Clayton last June, Bunque and Ogilvy have remained in contact ever since, the 23-year-old seeking guidance before turning professional straight after finishing runner-up at the Master of the Amateurs earlier this month.
