The Shenandoah County Board of Supervisors announced on Wednesday the interim appointment of Josh Stephens to the District 1 seat previously held by former chairman and longtime Supervisor Dick Neese, who died in a vehicle crash in late November.
Stephens, who was appointed to the board following a unanimous vote at a special meeting of the Board of Supervisors on Tuesday, will fill the remainder of Neeseâs term that expires on Dec. 31, 2021, according to a news release from County Administrator Evan Vass.
The Board of Supervisors accepted letters of interest from residents in District 1, which encompasses southern Shenandoah County and includes the town of New Market and the Bryce Mountain, Quicksburg and Forestville communities, and conducted two special meetings this week concerning the interim appointment. Stephens was selected from a pool of nine candidates who submitted letters of interest, the release states.
