Arson expected in fiery SUV explosion near Lake St. in Minneapolis Gasoline was used to set the blaze, according to the Mpls. Fire Department.  April 27, 2021 3:16pm Text size Copy shortlink: A fiery explosion destroyed an SUV parked just off Lake Street before dawn last week, and Minneapolis fire officials said Tuesday that they suspect the blaze was an act of arson. The large blast that followed the torching awoke many neighbors shortly after 5 a.m. last Wednesday near the intersection of E. Lake Street and S. 11th Avenue. A Fire Department investigation said the SUV was set ablaze with gasoline or some other accelerant as it was parked on southbound 11th just south of Lake. The fire started in the vehicle s passenger compartment, according to a department incident report.

Century-Old Minneapolis Church Burns -- ATF Investigating

20 Apr 2021 Minneapolis firefighters could not save a century-old Catholic church from destruction in a Monday night blaze. Officials say the roof of the church collapsed and the building sustained heavy damage. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) is assisting in the investigation of a fire that consumed the Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish church Monday night in northeast Minneapolis, the  Minneapolis Star-Tribune reported. The fire began at about 7 p.m. A video published on Twitter shows flames and smoke coming through the roof of the 100-year-old church. Officials report no one was inside the church at the time the three-alarm fire began. Firefighters rescued a few parishioners who entered the burning church to attempt to put out the fire, WCCO CBS4 reported.
