Hopkins wins in overtime, giving Novak 900th career victory

Hopkins, ranked No. 3 in Class 4A, trailed by six points with nine minutes left in the second half. A three-point shot by Royals forward Jaelen Treml tied the score at 50 with less than a minute remaining and those were the final points of regulation. The Royals scored the first four points of the overtime, but the No. 5 Hawks pulled within 56-54 with 20 seconds remaining. Then Jarrett Brenlynd, who was 4-for-4 from the free-throw line in the extra session, made his last two in the closing seconds to help the Royals hold on.

Pisgah Church Road on a misdemeanor charge of failing to appear in court. Damage to a vehicle tire reported at 12:25 p.m. Tuesday in the 3200 block of N.C. 87. Kayla Arieana Thompson, 21, of 1883 Minter School Road, Sanford, was arrested at 10 a.m. Tuesday in the 1400 block of South Horner Boulevard on charges of obtaining property by false pretense and misdemeanor possession of stolen property.
