(CNN) — About two weeks after his oldest son’s funeral, South Carolina state house Rep. Brandon Guffey says he received a private Instagram message with a laughing emoji.
After his son’s suicide in 2022, Brandon Guffey discovered the 17-year-old had been getting Instagram messages demanding money in exchange for nude images he’d sent. Now Guffey is suing Instagram’s parent company, alleging it doesn’t do enough to protect young people from online predators.
