CLEVELAND, Ohio – Thirteen Democratic candidates filed petitions by the Wednesday deadline to run in the 11th Congressional District race to replace former Rep. Marcia Fudge.
The packed field included many notable names whose campaigns are already active and excluded one who announced his candidacy but ultimately decided against running: former state Rep. Bryan Flannery. Two Republicans also filed for the primary in the district that is heavily gerrymandered to favor Democrats.
This isn t the first major endorsement that Turner has received, however.
In the past several months, the politician has been publicly endorsed by Cleveland Mayor Frank Jackson, U.S. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Susan Sarandon, Mark Ruffalo, and Sen. Bernie Sanders.
Known for her left-leaning views, Turner has promised to be an advocate for progressive policies in Congress if she were to be elected. What we are hearing from the people of this district is they want a Congressperson who is going to go to Washington to be an effective voice for the needs of our community.
