Friday fishing report for Alabama
Updated Mar 12, 2021;
From Weiss Lake, Mark Collins reports bass fishing has turned on in the past week, with lots of fish moving to the shallows in pre-spawn mode and ready to bite. Shallow-running crankbaits and spinnerbaits are the best bet, he said. For crappies, in which he specializes, best action is at 7 to 10 feet long-line trolling Jiffy Jigs. Water temperature is in the low 50′s but rising quickly in the shallows, and water level is about 2 feet below full pool; www.markcollinsguideservice.com.
At Lake Guntersville, Captain Mike Gerry says the spring move to the shallows is on, but has been spotty, and anglers have to be in the right place at the right time to find the big bites. The last several days of warm weather no doubt moved a lot of fish up to sun on the flats and around rocky shorelines, anywhere the water is warmer. Gerry says he is depending mostly on reaction baits, including SPRO Little John 60′s, SPRO Aruku shad rattle

Longer days, warmer afternoons and an end to freezing nights means the largemouth bass spawn is rapidly approaching across all of Alabama, and probably already underway in lakes in the southern counties.
Largemouths typically spawn on firm bottom around stumps, blowdowns, docks, seawalls and scattered weeds any sort of cover where the baby fish can find at least some cover from the panfish that will move in and try to eat them when they’re a few days old.
McDonald’s Big Bass Splash will be on Lake Guntersville in Scottsboro, AL on March 26, 27 and 28th at Goose Pond Colony. In person registration will be held on Thursday, March 25th from 12 pm - 8 pm. The tournament awards prizes for the biggest fish caught in each hour, so it allows novice anglers to have a shot at big prizes if they get lucky. The company says there’s a total of $260,000 in cash and prizes, including a Nitro Z20 bass boat with Mercury outboard, Minn Kota troller, Lowrance elec

Friday fishing report for Alabama
Updated Feb 19, 2021;
Brutally cold weather all but shut down fishing across the northern half of the state this past week, but a forecast for much warmer days and nights ahead should finally turn the corner in what has been a long, slow winter for bass anglers.
Captain Mike Gerry reports from Guntersville that the nights in the teens pushed bass out of pre-spawn mode and into deep ditches and creek beds, where his anglers caught a few dragging Carolina rigged worms on bottom, a few more on jigs and deep-diving SPRO crankbaits. Gerry says the warmer week ahead could see a very quick changeover to full pre-spawn mode in the bays and larger creeks, however, and suggests crankbaits and lipless vibrating lures like the Aruku Shad as a good way to find the fish; www.fishlakeguntersvilleguideservice.com.
