15-year-old graduate of Bryan HS says the school changed its mind on using his preferred name, not deadname, at graduation. School says it will only use legal name.
Monday night was the last board of education meeting for Bryan City Schools outgoing Superintendent Diana Savage.
âIt has been a pleasure serving the students and families at Bryan City Schools for the last 22 years,â Savage said. âIâm thankful for the opportunity they gave me 12 years ago to be the superintendent. Itâs time to face new opportunities and challenges in 2021.â
Savage started her career in education as a teacher in Swanton, in 1989. She was the Bryan High School assistant principal from 2001-05; curriculum coordinator from 2005-08 and the superintendent from May 2008 to present.
âShe helped the community see our vision for the school and that helped us pass the bond for our new facility,â incoming Superintendent Mark Rairigh said. âI still call it new because itâs as bright, shining and new as it was five years ago. It is the house that Diana built and it will meet our needs in the 21st century and beyond.â
