The federal government announced Tuesday it is investing more than $832,000 to help the Friends of Fundy create more opportunities for tourism in Atlantic Canada.
Moncton-Riverview-Dieppe MP Ginette Petitpas Taylor and New Brunswick Social Development Minister Bruce Fitch made the announcement at the Holy Whale Beer Hall in Riverview on behalf of federal Economic Development Minister Mélanie Joly.
“Tourism is vital to our economy,” said Joly in a release. “Investments like the ones announced today help our tourism partners create new opportunities for communities, businesses and operators, positioning the industry – and the region – for a swift recovery.”

COVID
Two new cases of Covid-19 were reported in New Brunswick on Wednesday. Public Health says one is in the Moncton region, the other is in the Edmundston Health zone. The two cases continue a trend of low case numbers over the past week – including the province’s first day without a new case in over two months on Tuesday.
With recoveries the number of active cases has fallen to 64, with two people currently hospitalized – including one patient in intensive care.

New Brunswick Social Development Minister Bruce Fitch says 600 new nursing home beds will be opened in the province over the next five years. Fitch made the comment after the provincial auditor general warned of a looming crisis if the province doesn’t address a shortage of long-term care spaces. MONCTON, N.B. Moncton took another step to deal with homelessness on Monday. Millions are being earmarked to fund a 125-unit housing project to help people get off the streets. The city is putting up $6 million, with the province matching that amount. It is a joint project with Rising Tide Community Initiatives Inc. The project was slowed down by the pandemic, but will roll out over the next three years. The plan includes the purchase of about 20 properties in the city to make up the 125 units, although these properties haven t been identified. New Brunswick Social Development Minister Bruce Fitch is hoping that the federal rapid housing initiative fund in the New Year will also contribute to the project.
