In addition to picking up $1.5 million and a WSOP title, Salas moves on to a heads-up showdown set to take place in Las Vegas on Dec. 30.
Although the Argentinian’s victory stole the headlines, it’s not the only story from the Main Event’s unique final table. With the event switching from an online affair to a live one, Peiyuan Sun became an unexpected early casualty.

The first half of the 2020 World Series of Poker $10,000 Main Event has concluded, with Damian Salas outlasting the rest of the final table at the King’s Casino in Rozvadov, Czech Republic.
The international main event was open to poker players outside of the United States on GGPoker. The $10,000 tournament drew 7,221 online players from around the world. When the field was whittled down to nine, the final table convened at the King’s Casino.
The final nine actually became the final eight after one of the final table players, Peiyuan Sun from China, opted out of the in-person portion of the tournament. Sun was automatically awarded ninth place and $75,360.

The 2020 WSOP Main Event international leg has finally come to an end, with Damian Salas edging out seven other opponents and securing a place at the head-to-head with the US winner, which is yet to be known.
The final table hosted eight out of nine finalists at the King’ Resort in Rozvadov in the Czech Republic on December 15. The final bout featured two South Americans who went head-to-head to claim the top prize of $1,550,969 and a chance to challenge in a heads up against the soon to be decided US champion for the bracelet and be crowned the WSOP World Champion in 2020.

The unique dynamics this year’s $10,000 Main Event are a result of COVID-19 restrictions hampering plans earlier in 2020.
As such, there will be an international and US champion. One will eventually take the overall title but, for now, Salas is a champion and the man progressing to the live finale in Las Vegas.
