More tournaments will accommodate junior players in the country amid the success of the Brunei National Junior Table Tennis Championship 2021 at the Menglait Sports Complex recently.
Tournament Director Steven Yap said the championship, organised by the Brunei Darussalam Table Tennis Association (BDTTA), marked the start of junior events with more to be held in the future.
Participants’ names were also put up in the national ranking table and were submitted to the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) to be registered and recognised by people all over the world.
Felix Low Guo Zhang won the under-16 boys’ singles category while Ling Yi Zhen won the under-16 girls’ singles title.

The Brunei Darussalam Table Tennis Association (BDTTA) held a certificate presentation at the Menglait Sports Complex recently to award members who had attended a series of lectures and tests for qualification of being a national umpire and national coach.
BDTTA President Pengiran Haji Muhammad Noor bin Pengiran Haji Tajuddin said, “The association is proud with the encouraging participation response, especially from the youth community and table tennis players in Brunei Darussalam to join the course.”
He said the course aimed to increase the number of recognised coaches and umpires as part of early preparations for the upcoming national tournaments such as National Open 2021, President’s Cup 2021 and regional meets including the Southeast Asian Table Tennis Association (SEATTA) 2023.
