While watching Vice President Kamala Harris being sworn in, Itzel Hernandez was reminded of what she calls the “most American story.” The first-generation daughter of immigrants is breaking barriers as the highest-ranking woman of color in federal government.
“There’s this side of me that, despite some of the things we saw in the last year and last few weeks, I’m an endless optimist over what America is. I feel like we can breathe a little easier today,” said Hernandez, an undocumented immigrant and DACA recipient.
