Aung San Suu Kyi detained in coup
Myanmar’s military has taken control of the country after army officers detained Aung San Suu Kyi and other senior figures in morning raids on Monday. The army is claiming that last November’s election, in which the National League for Democracy won 83% of the vote, was fraudulent. It has declared a state of emergency for one year. Military commander-in-chief Min Aung Hlaing is now in charge of the country. Soldiers are reported to be on the streets of the capital, Naypyidaw, and communications channels and media broadcasts have suffered disruption. White House spokeswoman Jen Psako said the United State would “take action against those responsible” if the attempts to “impede Myanmar’s democratic transition” are not reversed. The BBC, Reuters and The Guardian have more.
Angeli was reportedly hanging out for Trump to pardon him during his final days in office, and when it didn t happen he said he felt duped . He regrets very, very much having not just been duped by the President, but by being in a position where he allowed that duping to put him in a position to make decisions he should not have made, his lawyer Albert Watkins told KSDK news outlet at the time.
Over the weekend, Watkins told Metro UK that Angeli had turned against the former President and would offer to testify during the impeachment trial.
He said Angeli was willing to take to the stand when the trial kicks off on February 8 because he felt like he was betrayed by the President .

Donald Trump has announced two new lawyers to lead his impeachment trial defence, just one day after parting ways with his two previous top lawyers.
David Schoen and Bruce L Castor are set to defend the former president on a charge of inciting an insurrection after last month s Capitol riots.
News emerged over the weekend that Trump s two previous lead lawyers, Butch Bowers and Deborah Barbier, were no longer with the defence team just a week before the trial was set to begin.
