New clinical trials are set to kick off next month for COVID-19 vaccine candidates, this time for kids. They’re being done by Accel Clinical Research. The company is currently recruiting a couple thousand people younger than 18 to participate. One of the primary researchers, Dr. Bruce Rankin, says having this group vaccinated will play a big role in achieving herd immunity.“We know that some of the vaccines now are approved for 16, 17 year-olds, but we need to do the next step down either 12 years or maybe all the way down to six and eventually into infants,” Rankin said.He says the trials should be very similar to the trials for adults, except they’re expected to take less time because we have more information now than we did then.“Most of these vaccinations require a primary shot, then a booster shot, so it’s going to look very much like the adult trials,” Rankin said.Parents interested in having their children participate can apply online at covidorlando.comDr.
