The recent lowering of Public Health Solutionâs risk dial in Gage County, as well as the potential for another potential spike in COVID-19 cases after the holidays were two topics of discussion at Beatriceâs Board of Health meeting Monday afternoon.
The board approved amending the mask mandate to further clarify the ordinance, which is currently set to end on Friday, Jan. 15.
City Administrator Tobias Tempelmeyer said since Order 20-002 of the mandate was passed by the board on Friday, Dec. 11, he has met with several members of the public to discuss how to make the mandate better.
âIn those conversations, I believe weâve come to some agreement on how to kind of clean some of the language up in the order,â Tempelmeyer said. âThere still are opponents to the mask mandate, whether itâs the constitutionality or effectiveness, or number of other reasons.â

Petitioners in Beatrice hope city mask mandate is not extended
A health board meeting is scheduled for tomorrow at 11:15 a.m. to decide whether or not the mandate will be extended.

Beatrice’s mask mandate is set to expire on December 15. Some Beatrice residents are hoping the city health board does not extend it.
Petitioners gathered outside of the 402 Sports Bar and Grill on Thursday encouraging people to sign a petition for the health board to weigh the pros and cons of the mask mandate before making a decision to extend it.
“What kind of scientific data, reviews, studies, that kind of thing, did they use to make the decision? I was told that wasn’t a part of it. That frustrated me to make a decision for 12,000 people,” petition organizer Amy Southwick said.
