Pływak urodzony w Głogowie rywalizował w finale na 200 metrów stylem grzbietowym.
Radosław Kawęcki zajął szóste miejsce w finale 200 m st. grzbietowym w igrzyskach w Tokio. Zwyciężył rosyjski pływak Jewgienij Ryłow, bijąc wynikiem 1.53,27 rekord olimpijski.
Ryłow zdecydowanie wyprzedził rywali. Srebrny medal wywalczył Amerykanin Ryan Murphy - 1.54,15, a brązowy Brytyjczyk Luke Greenbank - 1.54,72.
