On Sept. 30, Kevin was at the City Hall in Ottawa to commemorate the Second Truth and Reconciliation Commemoration Day. He was there to address the public as a survivor of residential schools where hundreds of Indigenous children were abused and died. Forced into a residential school when he was five, separated from his family for years, he turned into a kind of hate machine. But now, the more he talks about his pain and trauma, the more he heals. The city mayor tells the people in yellow shirts: it s their day, for those who suffered forced assimilation and all the little ones who didn t make it home. We are here to support in any way we can.
