senate, i guess what s the take away for us at large? i don t know what the take away for us is at largement i think in many ways this comes almost exactly a year after president trump was elected in a surprise election after we heard on tape him bragging about forcing himself on women. of course, he denied all the allegations here just like roy moore has. i am getting the sense of alabama voters who really really like roy moore is that he s a dynamic, engaging character. if you go back and watch the debate between him and the interim senator luther strange, i mean, you want to fall asleep listening to strange. he didn t have a lot of reasons to sell to voters for why they should elect him other than donald trump supports him. by contrast, roy moore got on stage and he was cracking jokes and saying memorable lines. promising to stick it to the republican establishment, which is a very sellable line,
dale along with john archibald. daniel, you were calling down to the gop officials down in alabama trying to get their reaction as this news was breaking. what did you end up hearing from them? i expected them to say that they thought the allegations were false. i didn t expect what i actually heard, which was a number of them defending the conduct in question, even if it was true, and two of them and think third sort of half and half saying that they would still support roy moore over any democrat even if the allegations were true. they explicitly told me on the record, these are people i d never spoken to before, didn t know me and said to me on the record that they would vote for a literal child molester over a democratic candidate doug jones. so it was really astonishing to hear. and another one said it wasn t forcible rape because there was no actual sex and that
out the reporter. instead that they had heard rumors that this has been kind of the talk of the town here for quite sometime and so they started digging a little deeperment but again, the alabama state audio tore much like roy moore s brother that you just heard from there, they say that this is politically motivated and they have absolutely no they don t feel that he should step down in any way. they like the fact that he s firing back and that he is wanting to take this on. now, he was scheduled to be at a veterans day event tomorrow here in the area. there s a question of whether he will show up or not. the venue says it s still scheduled to go on, but at this point he hasn t been seen publicly since these allegations broke. they like the fact that he s firing back. sounds a lot like what people would say about their vote for donald trump. gentlemen, thank you very much for joining me today. let s go now to amber phillips, political reporter for the washington post and daniel
