That thinking helped Buchalski run 14:57 in the 5,000 meters at the Sound Running Invite in San Juan Capistrano, California, on March 6. It was a PR by 25 seconds, good enough for second behind Emily Sisson (14:55) and for the Olympic standard. And as of publish, it’s the fourth-fastest 5,000-meter time in the world.
“If I had really looked at the clock and got in my head about how I’m feeling and how much further I had to go, I don’t know if I would have felt as confident to [keep up] with Sisson and dip under 15 [minutes],” Buchalski told

On Saturday night, several runners achieved Olympic and Olympic Trials standards at the Sound Running Invite.
Emily Sisson and Grant Fisher won the women’s and men’s 5,000-meters, respectively, leading ten total runners under the Olympic standard for the event.
In the 1500 meters, Sinclaire Johnson won the women’s race, with a U.S. Olympic Trials standard, and Josh Kerr won the men’s race.
Nia Akins and Josh Hoey crossed first in the women’s and men’s 800 meters, respectively.
In the latest COVID-adjusted meet geared towards helping runners achieve qualifying standards, the Sound Running Invite featured several career bests and barrier-breaking performances.
Meet track media monarch Ben Crawford

Who is Ben Crawford? It’s a question many have asked after stumbling upon Crawford’s once self-titled YouTube channel, which he recently renamed New Generation Track and Field in unity with his burgeoning magazine series.
Featured prominently in the channel’s videos are members of the University of Oregon’s cross country team, with frequent cameos by members of the distance running community from the University of Portland, the University of Colorado, Boulder, Cal and beyond. But Crawford, a senior at Oregon, is not a member of any of these groups; instead, the channel’s (now former) titular character is the man behind the lens.
