After watching disgruntled supporters of former President Donald Trump storm the U.S. Capitol Jan. 6, Select Board member Raul Fernandez questioned whether there’s room in law enforcement for anyone who still backs Trump.
Fernandez’s comments came during a Jan. 12 Select Board meeting, and for a week afterward, all was quiet. Then the messages and calls began pouring in.
According to Fernandez, some used slurs targeting his Latinx heritage; one threatened to burn down his house with his family inside. All expressed support for the police.
“Blue Lives Matter more than your life matters,” one of the messages read, according to Fernandez.
