Battle Creek Man Charged In A Fatal Double Shooting
A Battle Creek man already jailed for attempted murder has now been charged in the death of a Kalamazoo college student.
A Battle Creek man already in jail on an attempted murder charge has now been charged in the shooting death of Kalamazoo Valley Community College student Rachel Curl. Ja’Shaun Markee Jones, a 20-year-old from Battle Creek, had an amended charge of open murder added earlier this week in Kalamazoo County District Court, according to MLive.
Jones is alleged to have shot 20-year-old Rachel Curl at the Hidden Hills apartment complex, in the 4200 block of Hidden Hills Drive not far from the campus of Western Michigan University, on October 17. Curl was a native of Benton Harbor. Curl died later that morning at Bronson Methodist Hospital.

KALAMAZOO, MI A Battle Creek man already in jail on an attempted murder charge has now been charged in the shooting death of Kalamazoo college student Rachel Curl.
Ja’Shaun Markee Jones, 20, had an amended charge of open murder added on Tuesday, Dec. 22, in Kalamazoo County District Court.
Curl, a 20-year-old native of Benton Harbor, was a student at Kalamazoo Valley Community College, her friend Ari Dolge told MLive.

KALAMAZOO,MI Some of the first batch of coronavirus vaccines were delivered to Kalamazoo’s downtown hospital on Thursday, Dec. 17.
Bronson Methodist Hospital has received 1,950 doses of the Pfizer and BioNTech coronavirus vaccine, produced just a few miles away at the Pfizer plant in Portage, a hospital spokesperson confirmed Thursday.
Per state guidelines, healthcare workers will be the first to be vaccinated throughout the Bronson Healthcare system, which includes four hospitals in Southwest Michigan.
Across the system, Bronson hospitals were caring for 80 coronavirus patients on Dec. 17. Of those patients, 35 were in the Kalamazoo hospital.

Tranaya Spencer, 22, pleaded guilty Thursday, Dec. 10 to one count of manslaughter and one count of third-degree child abuse, Kalamazoo County Chief Assistant Prosecutor Scott Brower told MLive.
Spencer will be sentenced Jan. 4 in Kalamazoo County Circuit Court.
