A 37-YEAR-OLD man who downloaded pictures of underage girls and sexually groomed a 15-year-old girl has been jailed for three years.

Deputy Bailiff Robert MacRae, presiding, told Leslie Thomas Bulpin that ‘young people are entitled to be protected from people like you’.
The Royal Court heard that a number of indecent images of children had been found on Bulpin’s iPhone, with a few of them in the ‘level four’ category, among the most serious.
He had at first denied the charge and claimed that someone else must have had access to his phone, but later admitted the offence.

A MAN with paranoid schizophrenia attacked a woman with a knife leaving her with a 10cm gash to her head. Richard Shinnick had been invited by his friend to live in her home in May this year due to him being made homeless. The 40-year-old was living with her at her house in Basildon on May 13 when the attack happened while she was in bed. Shinnick was sentenced at Basildon Crown Court yesterday for wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, having a blade and criminal damage. Prosecuting, Cyrus Shroff said: “Shinnick and the complainant had been close friends for a significant period of time, for about 15 years.
