Helena area residents donate thousands of Valentine s Day cards to local CASA By: John Riley and last updated 2021-02-09 16:14:13-05 HELENA — CASA (Court-Appointed Special Advocates) of Lewis & Clark and Broadwater Counties say they’ll be able to provide valentines day cards to every foster child in the greater Helena area thanks to the generosity of the community. Executive Director Gerry Hill said the act of generosity actually stemmed from a misunderstanding. The CASA program in Great Fall had the idea to encourage the community to provide Valentine’s Cards to children who are in foster care. MTN picked up the story which then inspired Helena resident Karleen Hanson to reach out to CASA of Lewis & Clark and Broadwater Counties about doing the same thing.

Eck leaves a definable impact on the state of Montana through her advocacy and political career. Fresh out of school, Eck and her husband moved to Helena thirteen years ago after he got a clerkship with the State Supreme Court. The plan was to only stay for a year, but they didn’t count on falling in love with Big Sky Country.

Executive Director Eck moving on from Friendship Center MTN News and last updated 2021-02-02 14:14:13-05 HELENA — On Tuesday, Jenny Eck announced she will be leaving her role as Executive Director of the Friendship Center to pursue an international fellowship in Peace and Conflict Resolution. Eck has been leading the Friendship Center since July of 2018. “It is bittersweet to be leaving my position at the Friendship Center,” Eck said. “I have loved my time here and am passionate about the mission. This is an incredible organization with deep roots in our community.” The Friendship Center is the only organization in Lewis and Clark, Jefferson, and Broadwater Counties dedicated to serving survivors of domestic violence, sexual abuse, and stalking through safe shelter, crisis response and advocacy. They provide confidential services to anyone who has suffered from these types of violence, free of charge.
