Broadhurst Grove: Council could protect land from development

Residents Gill Moore, Sheena Grassi and Jan Hall have been working for almost a year to protect their beloved village green in Broadhurst Grove, Lychpit. Two areas of communal green space in Lychpit could be protected from development by the council. The village green off Broadhurst Grove and ancient hedgerows on Saxon Way were sold off by developers after the council failed to enact a section 52 legal agreement to transfer it into its possession. But now, the authority says it is considering designating both spaces as local green space in the local plan update which will protect it from the threat of development.

Broadhurst Grove: Council still unaware of what went wrong

Residents in Broadhurst Grove have united to try to stop their green space being lost The council has not yet been able to determine why a parcel of land it had been maintaining for four decades had not been transferred to its ownership. As previously reported, Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council acknowledged that an error meant the village green off Broadhurst Grove was not transferred from the developer to the authority. It failed to enact a section 52 agreement, a legal agreement between a planning authority and developer, that would have seen it transferred to the council once the estate was constructed.
