suffering a heart attack this week on the campaign trail. the sanders campaign says he will be off the trail for a few days, but he will be on stage in the next democratic debate which is a week away. meantime, elizabeth warren has all but closed the gap with joe biden. shows biden holding onto a slim 2-point edge. biden has in recent days been forced to pend some of his time addressing widely debunked accusations from president trump over his son s business deals in ukraine. and nbc s mike memoli writes, quote, long-time confidants of the former vp say that even he could not have anticipated that the president would escalate his attacks so dramatically or so early. and his reluctant to discuss his family in the campaign is a major reason why he s not chosen to respond forcefully to trump s current assault. joining the conversation is nbc news correspondent mike memoli yahoo news national political correspondent brittany shepard. don calloway is back with me.

too without any republicans support. joining me now with their reporting and insights, phil matt mattingly, brittany shepard of yahoo news and molly ball of time magazine. when saw that 600 words statement in my inbox this morning i was like what s going on? 600 words for president biden is rare or any president is rare. the white house was truly worried that something, maybe this whole thing would blow up in their faces. i think valid reasons to be concerned. this was kind of a 72-hour period where watching the white house operate on this was fascinating. first, they didn t think it was a huge deal. they knew the president went off script and essentially saying he didn t sign the bill as the second measure did not come. and then they had their top
