Carlisle Racecourse bosses on the return of spectators

Welcome back: Carlisle Grossick Racing / Racing Post Carlisle Racecourse bosses say they can’t wait to have more people back at the course after this week’s successful return of spectators. About 1,000 paying customers were back at the Durdar track for the first time since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic. It coincided with Carlisle’s first Flat meeting since September 2019. The long-awaited return of spectators delighted Carlisle general manager Molly Dingwall. She said: “It’s just been so exciting to have people back here. “To see so many familiar faces has been lovely and racedays are like a family - everybody knows each other and it’s so nice for them to be back racing again.

Carlisle racegoers back where they belong

It has been a long time in coming - but Carlisle Racecourse finally reopened its doors to spectators today. The first Flat meeting at the Durdar track since September 2019 coincided with the long-awaited return of racegoers since the Covid-19 shutdown. Carlisle became the first racecourse in England to stage a race in front of spectators this year when the action got under way at 1pm. It saw El Caballo cheered home by a crowd as Karl Burke’s charge romped to victory in the British Stallion Studs EBF Novice Stakes. That was the first of eight races as a sense of normality returned to the sport, with spectators also back to watch meetings at Redcar, Windsor and Leicester.
