Kuala Lumpur: The British Council has launched new British Council Scholarship for Women in STEM aimed at supporting women in strong need of financial support who wish to pursue their master’s degrees in UK universities in areas related to Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM).
This new scholarship will allow over 100 women from countries in the Americas, South Asia and East Asia to obtain their advanced degree from a UK university, permitting them to further develop their careers in science.
According to data from the UN Scientific Education and Cultural Organization (Unesco), fewer than 30 percent of researchers worldwide are women and only 30 percent of female students select STEM-related fields in higher education. MALAYSIA must start nurturing the next generation of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) professionals from young because the sciences are an important component of the economy.
Academy of Sciences Malaysia (ASM) president Prof Datuk Dr Asma Ismail (pic) said Covid-19 is proof that individuals and industries in the sciences are spared the negative economic repercussions resulting from the pandemic.

Islamabad:As COVID-19 has transformed the entire world systems, the Higher Education Commission (HEC), and the British Council, Pakistan will hold a three-day virtual conference from December 15 to 17 to discuss the future of the higher education sector in the post-pandemic world.
The conference entitled “Pakistan-UK Education Gateway: Rethinking and Reshaping a Resilient Higher Education System” will discuss key issues facing the sector in the ‘new’ normal, the role of leadership in building resilient HEC systems, and lessons learnt from the pandemic.
It will celebrate some of the concrete contributions that the Pak-UK Gateway programme has made so far.
