The land, covering about 59 acres on Western Avenue, Riddlesden, is currently open space. Riddlesden Golf Club announced in 2016 that it was to close after nearly 90 years in existence, due to declining membership. The Keighley News reported at the time that two greenkeepers and a steward would lose their posts with the closure. Secretary John Dickinson, a former club captain and president who had been a member since 1984, said it was a “very sad” time for the club and to see it close was a “massive blow to everyone”. The former golf course is owned by Bradford Council, which has announced plans to dispose of the land. The site is now used by Scouts as an activity centre and the council plans to hand it over through community asset transfer.

The truth about The Setup on Manners, Wellington s notorious emergency housing hotel

It’s not an uncommon story. The machinery of emergency housing held 622 Wellington households in its gears at last count. The people in those households are signed on to short-term contracts with emergency housing providers, funded through grants provided by the Ministry of Social Development, one week at a time. But those contracts aren’t protected by the Residential Tenancies Act, giving people in emergency housing a shaky claim on the title “tenant”, and no certainty of shelter beyond seven days. On the other hand, the contracts sometimes roll over indefinitely – in some cases for years – because the actual social housing wait list now exceeds 22,000 people.

Bradford s lateral flow test centres to close

BRADFORD s lateral flow test centres are to close, the Council has said. The centres, at St George s Hall in Bradford city centre and the Airedale Shopping Centre in Keighley, were set up last December. Bradford Council said they will close due to the widespread availability of home test kits. St George s Hall last opening date is today (April 29) and Airedale will be closed from May 14. What are lateral flow tests? They are fast turnaround tests that can process Covid-19 samples on site without laboratory equipment. Most generate results in under 30 minutes. The tests help to identify infectious people who are asymptomatic (not displaying symptoms) and make sure they can isolate and prevent spreading the virus further.
