A city-commissioned LGBTQIA+ Quality of Life Study is taking the pulse of Austin s LGBTQ population in hopes of informing policy proposals crafted to address inequality facing the community in areas such as health care, housing and public safety.
More than 600 people responded to the study s survey in the first two weeks after its release Jan. 22, according to the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer Quality of Life Advisory Commission. The survey is expected to run until April 30.
Victor Martinez, chair of the commission, said when the panel first met in 2017, the members saw a blind spot in past city demographic and quality of life surveys because they did not ask questions about gender identity and sexual orientation.
