Home Instead Tyne Valley take part in Dementia Action Week

A LOCAL home care company is to do a 5k walk in aid of the Bring Joy Foundation charity. As part of Dementia Action Week (May 17-23), Home Instead Tyne Valley staff are bringing children and dogs - and inviting anyone else who would like to join - to raise awareness. The Bring Joy Foundation aims to keep ageing adults happy, healthy and connected to their communities. Home Instead owner Heather Hughes said: “This is a wonderful charity which focuses on older people and raises funds to help local groups do something nice for their members. “In the past, we have helped to fund a library group who were going to have to give up their club sessions because they had run out of money. Often we are asked by a group to fund a trip to the seaside, Bring Joy will cover the cost of the journey and, perhaps, fish and chips while the group are at the beach.”

Gateway Church in Kendal launches hug in a mug project

A CHURCH in Kendal is stepping up its mission to alleviate loneliness in the town with its ‘hug in a mug’ campaign. Gateway Church is aiming to prepare hundreds of mugs with tea, coffee and much more to give to Kendal’s elderly residents. And the church has recently received £1,500 from home care company Home Instead’s Bring Joy Foundation to support the endeavour. Community Connector, Rev Jonny Gios, said: “We aim to make up 400 mugs with, tea, coffee, sweets and more goodies inside a mug. These will be given to the 300 residents in care homes in Kendal. The remaining 100 will be given out with the help of Home Instead South Lakes and Kendal ICC.
