Sure it s July. And sure, we often get some really hot, humid weather. But Minnesota just recorded the coldest temperature in the country Thursday!
Remember when Super Bowl LII (that s 52, if you don t speak Roman Numerals) was held here in Minnesota at US Bank Stadium back in 2018? Organizers coined the term Bold North to help sell the rest of the country on all the positive aspects of coming to Minnesota in the middle of winter in early February.
I m guessing they didn t necessarily think it would fit to describe Minnesota in July, but it sure did Thursday. That s because the coldest place in the United States on Thursday, July 8th, was right here in the Land of 10,000 Lakes which hopefully weren t frozen.
The forecast warms up starting Friday. 4:32 pm, Jul. 8, 2021 ×
Brimson, which includes Hugo s Bar and not much else, was the coldest inhabited spot in the U.S. on Thursday morning with a low temperature of 30 degrees reported.
The National Weather Service in Duluth says the only colder reading was on Mount Denali in Alaska.
Brimson is about 40 miles northeast of Duluth as the crow flies.
Temperatures dropped to 32 degrees at Eveleth, at Sea Gull Lake on the Gunflint Trail and 6 miles west of Beaver Bay as a pocket of cold air settled over Northeastern Minnesota. Several locations dropped into the mid-30s, with 40 reported at Duluth International Airport.
