As a South Australian university student in the mid to late 1960s, James Crawford joined protests against the Vietnam War. It seemed to him, as it did so many of his generation, that the war was quite out of order. But while, for most students, that radical phase ended, for Crawford it continued. “I suppose the strongest influence, apart from my parents and school, was the development of Australia’s international relations with some emphasis on Vietnam and the increasing influence of the United States as compared with the United Kingdom,” he said later.

Car-yard fire at Somerton Park, South Australia
Motorists are advised north bound traffic on Brighton Road has been diverted near Brighton Secondary School as fire crews are currently at a fire at car-yard on Brighton Road at Somerton Park.
Police and fire crews were called to the car-yard just at around 5.45am on Wednesday 27 January, after a member of the public reported two cars on fire.
Fire crews have quickly bought the blaze under control with the fire being treated as suspicious.
Traffic on Brighton Road is restricted, north bound has been diverted up Bowker Street with south bound down to one lane.
