Born in Cross Street, Cowes, to Lily and James Mumford, she went to school in the town. She married Gerald Arthur George Snow on July 31, 1948 at St Mary s Church in Cowes. She met her future husband through their parents. Her mother died when Mary was 17, and her father later remarried Gerald s mother. Mrs Snow worked from home for Readers, making lampshades while bringing up their first child, Graham, who was born in 1958. The couple adopted their second child, Nichola, in 1969. Mrs Snow also worked twilight shifts at Fibre Resin making television backs, and worked in their canteen once Graham and Nichola were old enough to attend school.
PUPILS from three Island primary schools have brought joy to older residents in care homes through their continued creative content and interactions. St Blasius Academy in Shanklin, Lanesend Primary School, Cowes, and St Thomas of Canterbury Catholic Primary School in Newport, participated with a project delivered by local charity Independent Arts. Funded by the National Lottery, the School Ties project saw ten children from reception and year 1 of each school spend pre-lockdown Friday mornings having their lessons alongside ten residents in three care homes. Project delivery lead, Jo Rigby, said: “The mutual support between children and residents as they worked and learned together through song and craft, stories and gardening was really moving with lasting friendships between the homes and schools.

Coronavirus: Isle Of Wight Youngsters Creatively Support The Elderly

Youngsters on the Isle of Wight have been supporting the elderly through the lockdown by getting creative and staying in touch - the old fashioned way.
Students from three Island primary schools have been making cards, writing letters and creating paintings for elderly care home residents.
Before the lockdown, some of the youngsters spent their Friday mornings lessons alongside residents from three Isle of Wight care homes.
