VOLUNTEERS have been left appalled and angry after their community club was broken into by vandals who caused a vast amount of reckless damage. Police are investigating after the Bridport Rugby Club pavilion was broken into at some point between the evening of Friday, May 21 and the morning of Sunday, May 23. Much of the equipment damaged is used by young players. At Bridport Rugby Club off Skilling Hill Road, wooden boards which cover the windows at the pavilion were torn off and the windows were smashed. A substantial amount of equipment was then damaged as wooden sterilisation points - created to reduce the spread of Covid-19 during games and training - were smashed and a number of tackle bags were sliced open and destroyed.

As with many in his generation, Browne began to play rugby after watching Jonny Wilkinson’s drop-kick to win the Rugby World Cup in 2003. He said: “I started playing at the age of six in 2004. I always loved sitting down in front of the TV on the weekend and watching the rugby and the internationals. “My idol at the time was Jonny Wilkinson and, after the world cup win, I just wanted to try and do the same.”
