The U.S. could learn from its decades of international assistance to conflict-affected and fragile states. Organizations in the U.S., including some that have worked overseas, are working to prevent violent extremism, strengthen democratic institutions, advance criminal justice reform, collect accurate data on violence, provide trauma healing to communities in need, and reduce political and community violence. This work is vital, yet sorely underfunded and insufficient to address the magnitude of the crisis.
