There s a new favorite employee at the campus of Kansas Wesleyan University the school introduced Ellie, a miniature goldendoodle, to bring joy and comfort to students and staff.
The idea of having a dog on campus came from the student development office as a way to try to be innovative in helping students during the COVID-19 pandemic. You can t do as many mass-gathering events on campus like we would normally do, said Bridget Weiser, vice president of student development at KWU.
In past years, Weiser said, the school has had puppy study breaks during finals for students to destress. (That) was always a big hit, Weiser said. We looked at other schools and found that some had therapy dogs or wellness dogs, so we talked it through and thought that would be one of the best things.
