Glenn Heights, Texas: The homeless problem has been around for a long time and it seems that there isn’t enough being done to slow the increase of people living on the streets. Shelters seem to be overpopulated. Years ago, when you saw a homeless person on the street, they were usually elderly. Now there are kids and young adults among them.
Matanzas High graduate Kayla Dombrowski could hardly stand still after walking across the stage at the Ocean Center on Wednesday. I feel amazing, she said from crowds of families and friends looking for their graduates. I m just above the moon right now.
Not only did the coronavirus pandemic make the last year of schooling more difficult, but Dombrowski dealt with medical issues over the last four years that made a typical graduation ceremony seem like a fantasy. I did not expect us to have a normal graduation, she said.
But that s exactly what students got. The Flagler County high school graduation ceremonies held on Wednesday at the Daytona Beach Ocean Center were exactly what you d expect from a commencement. Students and audience members sat side by side instead of distanced from each other, and there were few masks in sight.
