A man was burned in a fire at a Wilkinsburg apartment early Tuesday morning. The fire in the 900 block of Wood Street was reported shortly after 2 a.m., an Allegheny County 911 dispatcher said. It was reported under control just over an hour later, but Tribune-Review news partner WPXI-TV

Shots fired during attempted Hill District carjacking

Pittsburgh police were looking for a man after an attempted carjacking in the Hill District Monday night. Police said officers responded to a report of shots fired around 8:30 p.m. in the 600 block of Hollace Street. Offices found shots had been fired during an attempted carjacking. The two victims inside the vehicle drove off and were found on Wylie Avenue. A man who suffered cuts to his arm from broken glass refused medical attention, police said. Tarentum approves buying police SUV, policies on rifles, cameras

Tarentum police soon will be able to use their own rifles on the job under a policy approved this week by borough council. Borough Manager Michael Nestico said Tarentum already permits officers to use their own handguns, in part because the borough has not bought handguns for all of its officers. Mayor Eric Carter said several officers have asked to use their own rifles instead of the ones provided by the borough because they are more comfortable handling them. He said the officers put money into their own rifles, including upgrading them with lights, lasers and better sights.
