District 4 up for grabs as Maury commissioner resigns
Maury County Commissioner Matthew White is stepping down from his post.
White, who represents District 4 including parts of Columbia’s western edge, resigned from the role this week. I appreciate the opportunity to have served with you and your colleagues on behalf of the county, White said in a resignation letter shared with The Daily Herald.
White’s departure was formally shared by Commission Chair Don Morrow, during the county’s full commission meeting in June.
White no longer resides in the district that he represents, which requires him to resign from the position.

The Brighton Township Board has voted to begin meeting in-person again and pause some restrictions related to enforcing temporary use permits for businesses.
The board declared a resolution establishing a State of Emergency or SOE several weeks ago, which allowed the board and other bodies to meet remotely amid the pandemic. However, at a virtual work session Monday night, the board voted unanimously to terminate that resolution and begin meeting in person again effective at midnight. It also approved enacting a moratorium on enforcing sections of the zoning ordinance as it relates to temporary and special use permits for certain outdoors sales by retail businesses and food and beverage service by restaurants and bars through October 31st.

Maury County Commissioner of over three years Brian Vick is vacating his seat on the commission.
Vick announced his resignation during the board’s monthly meeting on Tuesday, sharing that he was moving out of the district he currently represents.
He told The Daily Herald that he will formally submit a letter of resignation in the coming days.
“It has been great,” Vick said. “I enjoyed my time on the board. I would have stayed there if I had not moved.”
Vick, who holds the District 10 seat representing the greater Mt. Pleasant area, has served on the commission since September 2018.
