Two independent incumbents will not seek reelection, and another will seek a different seat.
The deadline for independent candidates to file petitions was 4 p.m. Monday, and the Crawford County Board of Elections released a list of who filed later that afternoon. The elections board will certify petitions during a regular board meeting at 1 p.m. July 15.
Fourth Ward
Lisa Alsept, an independent who represents the Fourth Ward, did not file for reelection. Two independents did file petitions for that seat James D. Mee, 873 W. Perry St.; and Steven D. Young, 905 Nevada Road. Mee is currently an at-large member of council.
Independent candidates have until 4 p.m. May 3 the day before Ohio s primary election to file petitions with the Crawford County Board of Elections for a spot on the fall ballot. The petitions then must be certified by the board.
According to Ruth Leuthold, director of the elections board, this week two potential independent candidates picked up petitions. The board does not keep records of potential candidates who access petitions online.
Two men have told the Telegraph-Forum they intend to run for council president, seeking to unseat Republican Kurt Fankhauser; they are Brian Seybert and Adam V. Frizzell. No Democrat filed in that race.
