Moore: A missed opportunity?
In the 2018 election, there were two leading candidates for Secretary of state.
Republican Scott Schwab, a Fort Hays graduate, had run a small business, worked as a marketing consultant and sales trainer for a pharmaceutical company. He served several terms in the Kansas House of Representatives.
His opponent was Democrat Brian McClendon.
McClendon grew up in Lawrence and graduated the University of Kansas with a degree in electrical engineering. He was hired by Google as an Engineering Director, promoted to Vice President of Earth Viewer that formed the basis of Google Earth and holds over 21 issued patents. He retained ties with KU serving on the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science advisory board. Returning to Lawrence in 2017 he decided to run for Secretary of State.
